BIOGRAPHY
Joseph Lliso (conductor), a native of New York, begun his training in conducting at the age of six months - when it was observed that his gleeful arm - bouncing begun to follow the arm movements of the conductor who regularly coached his operatic tenor father. By the time he reached age three, his father discerned a serious effort at controlled rhythmic arm movements and took him to Arturo Toscanini for judgment. As it eventuated Maestro Toscanini immediately accepted Joseph under his tutelage and at age 7 he was permitted to conduct the Sibelius Second Symphony and Finlandia in Town Hall. Upon Toscanini's death, Leopold Stokowski and Leonard Bernstein continued the training. The latter permitted the 12-year-old Joseph to conduct a full symphonic concert in Town Hall. In 1965 he was awarded a Fullbright scholarship to Academia Nazionale de Santa Cecilia in Rome, Italy. He received his Baccalaureate Degree at Texas Christian University and a Masters degree in composition from Hunter College and attended Mannes on full scholarship.
He has conducted the full repertoire of operatic and symphonic works including the symphonies of Beethoven, Brahms, Haydn, Mozart, Schumann, Schubert and performances of La Boheme, Cavaleria Rusticana,Pagliacci, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Carmen, Otello, Aida, Hansel and Gretel, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni. In 1981 he conducted the world premiere of Judas, an opera of his own composition, in New York City.
Maestro Lliso has been guest conductor of the Dallas Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Rhode Island Opera company, Fort Worth Symphony, Midland Orchestra and Chorale society and the Garden State Orchestra of New Jersey. He has been guest conductor of the Bellas Artes Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, Caracas Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela and Symphony Orchestras in Bulgaria, Romania, Puerto Rico, Frankfurt ,Moscow , Istanbul and Ankara. As founder and director of the Bushwick Institute for the Performing Arts, he brings music, dance and drama training to this country's most underprivileged children.
THE PANAMERICAN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA.
In the spring of 1972, a group of musicians founded the Pan American Symphony Orchestra, an independent organization, for the purpose of creating music performance of the highest quality to the greatest number of people in an effort to increase public knowledge, understanding, education and enjoyment of live music in all its forms. In cooperation with businessmen, community leaders and government funding, the Pan American Symphony Orchestra has provided opportunity for many artists to perform to cultural acclaim. Joseph Lliso is the musical director and conductor who had his musical studies personally guided by Arturo Toscanini who provided the following teachers and mentors: Dr. Don Gillis. Maestro Wilfred Pelletier and Maestro Dante del Fiorentino. The Pan American Symphony Orchestra is comprised of musicians of all ethnic and racial backgrounds.
